NSAC travels to Birmingham for the Midland Road Relay Champs
North Somerset Athletic Club fielded teams across the Junior and Senior age groups to achieve great results in this prestigious – and hotly contended – relay event
North Somerset Athletic Club (NSAC) travelled to Birmingham on September 21st for the annual Midland Road Relay Champs at Sutton Park.
In the junior age groups, a team is made up of three athletes who run a distance of 3.8km per leg on an undulating and demanding course. The club took full teams in nearly every age category and performed well throughout.
The highlight of the day was a tremendous battle for a medal in the U13 Boys race. Sam B brought the team home in 8th place after leg one in 13.58, Killy F moved through the field well to place the team into 6th handing over to Olly F who set off on the last leg. He closed the gap on third and was involved in an epic battle over the last half mile. Olly gave it his all but just missed out on third in the final sprint recording an excellent time of 13.25 to bring the team home in a brilliant 4th place overall.
Such is the strength in depth in the age group our B team performed well to finish 16th overall. The U13 girls ran well to achieve 14th overall all in their debut at the event.
The U15 Boys team of Euan M, Alex R and Joel W all ran great legs and excelled expectations to finish a superb 5th place overall, Euan M was the fastest in the team with a time of 13.25.
The U17 Boys were led out by Stan B who recorded a course PB of 12.39, Leo D then stormed through the field in a rapid time of 12.26 to move the team up to third. In his first race for a year Joe F used all his experience and ran an excellent leg against quality opposition to bring the team home in 6th, Joe also recorded a course PB, running his 3.8km in a time of 12.57.
In the U17 ladies team Pippa H was the quickest in a time of 15.55 with the team performing well for 12th place overall.
In the men’s race – which is over six legs of 5.88km – there were almost 100 finishing teams so the competition was fierce. Despite a number of withdrawals through injuries in the lead up to the race, the men still fielded a strong team who finished 23rd overall, brought home by Callum Day on the 6th leg recording a course PB of 20.37. The top 25 teams go through to the national relay champs in 2 weeks’ time.
