NSAC’s Reuben W takes the win at penultimate Gwent League cross country fixture

Superb performances all round for NSAC at Margam Country Park

North Somerset AC delivered an outstanding performance in the penultimate Gwent Cross Country League fixture of the season, tackling a demanding course at Margam Country Park on Saturday, February 8th.

The highlight of the day came from Reuben W, who stormed to victory in the combined U17/U20 race. Drawing on his experience, he made his move on the hilly section, breaking away from the field to secure a commanding win. Leo D, James B, and Felix A ran brilliantly in support, helping to clinch the team victory.

Superb team performances continued across the age groups. The U11 Girls took the match win, with Charlotte M, Sylvie B, Georgia S, and Edna J all finishing in the top 14. Meanwhile, the U11 Boys secured second place on the day and remain second in the overall series, with Oscar R, Cameron F, Ted, and Arthur C all finishing inside the top 20.

The U13s continued their dominance, maintaining their lead in both the boys’ and girls’ league standings. Ollie F led the boys home in 6th, while Toby B delivered his best performance of the season in 16th. In the girls’ race, Annabelle E shone with a 5th-place finish, closely followed by Georgina R (8th), Isabelle M (9th), and Isabelle R, who fought hard as the all-important 4th scorer in 31st.

In the U15 category, Agnes A thrived in the challenging conditions, battling her way through the field to an impressive 5th-place finish. The boys also excelled, with Euan M securing his highest finish of the season in 5th, supported by Olly S (7th), Joel W (15th), and Alex R (21st), earning the team victory.

It was a family affair for the P family, with three members competing for the club. Frank P set the tone with an excellent top-10 finish, followed by mum Hannah in the senior ladies’ race and dad Sam in the senior men’s race—each of them scoring for the team.

In the senior ladies’ race, Jo Gallagher was the standout performer, finishing a fantastic 13th in a field of 200. The men’s team was led home by Callum Day in 51st, with strong support from the rest of the squad as they aim to maintain their position in Division 1.

It was a brilliant day of racing for North Somerset AC, with impressive individual and team performances across all age groups.
