NSAC takes individual and team titles at the second Gwent League cross country fixture in Cardiff

North Somerset Athletic Club travelled to Llandaff Field for Gwent League Race 2

On November 9th North Somerset AC travelled in great numbers to Llandaff Fields in Cardiff for the second cross country fixture in the Gwent League.

The fast flat course see Ben C excel again, taking the win in the U17 men’s race. This was his second win of the season, and he was backed up by the team scoring four athletes in the top 12 positions, Leo D (5), James B (10) and Joe F (12) to take 2nd in the team event, just behind Cardiff AAC – both races have been so close that it is set to go to the wire for the team title.

Earlier in the day the day Charlotte M had a fine run in the U11 Girls race. In a field of over 100 starters, Charlotte came in 3rd battling with the leaders throughout the race and matching her position from the first league meeting.  The ever-improving Edna J moving through the field for 27th place.

Fifteen U11 Boys took to the start line, a superb team turnout. They now sit second overall in the team standings after great packing at the front by Oscar R (9), Arthur C (13), Ted H (17) and Henry W (33).

The U13 Girls were again up against a huge field of over 100 competitors, strong packing at the front by Lucy B (13), Georgina R (20), Annabelle E (27) and Isabella M (29) puts the team in second place overall after two meetings.

Ollie F got stuck in from the start in the U13 Boys race, and after a valiant effort to stay with the leaders he led the team home in 5th place, he was backed up by his fellow runners, Killy F (14), Ed S (15 ) and Henry H ( 26) who won the team competition on the day and lead after two events.

In her first outing of the season on the cross-country Heidi M showed fine form leading the U15 Girls home in 14th place. In the boys U15 race Joel W showed experience beyond his age to cleverly move through the field to finish in 9th place.

A well-judged race by Estelle L in the U17 women’s race was rewarded with a brilliant 7th place finish. The team finished second on the day thanks to Felicity L (20), Frank P (25) Pippa H (32), Jasmine W (41). Talia H made a welcome return to racing after injury and finished 7th in the U20 Women’s race.

Joanne Gallagher made her cross-country debut for the club in the senior women’s 6.4km race. In a field of almost 400 Jo finished 34th overall and 4th in her age category.

The senior men’s race saw an incredible 600 finishers, the NSAC team who are now in Division 1 were are very credible 7th place on the day and were led home by Jack Wilkinson who had his best run for the club in 27th overall.

The next fixture is on 30 November at Blaise Castle where the club expects a large turnout to continue our excellent team standings throughout the age groups.
