NSAC Boys Teams Dominate At Gwent League XC

The 3rd Gwent League meeting of the season attracted 85 of the clubs junior athletes for the most local of winter cross country fixtures.

The U11 boys kicked things off and Felix A showed what a fantastic prospect he is to finish a superb 7th in his first cross country race for the club. He was supported by fellow scorers Euan M in 25th, Elijah L-H and Alfie F finishing together in 41st and 42nd respectively from a field of 89. The team were 4th on the day.

Heidi M continues to impress and moved into 7th overall for the season after a great run in finishing 5th in the U11 girls race. Phoebe C looked very good in her first race to finish 20th, with Sophie C and Isobel J in 29th and 33rd ensuring the girls finished 3rd team on the day.

Performance of the day undoubtedly came from the clubs strong U13 boys squad who blitzed all teams around them to take over top spot after the first three fixtures. Elliot J and Ben C set the pace by leading the field from the gun with the two working superbly together throughout. Elliot came within a whisker of his first race victory to finish just 2 seconds behind the winning Cardiff AC athlete with Ben only 4 seconds further back for a tremendous seasons best 5th place. Herbie C finished  strongly to take 8th place and all three athletes now find themselves comfortably within the top ten after the three races.  Seb L with his 19th place secured the team result after being pressed by the fast improving Jacob F who finished just one place behind.

Consistent Millie R continued her good run of form in what was another competitive race at the front. A solid 4th place kept her in the medal places and she remains 3rd overall for the season thus far. Lyla B and Harriet B were next home in 24th and 28th respectively whilst Pippa H had by far her best race of the season in 36th to carry the girls to 4th on the day.

The U15 girls also finished 4th on the day with Kiera D leading the team home in 7th place. Olivia M continues to improve with every race and once again looked comfortable in 17th place, whilst Blythe J and Mary H displayed great team running to finish 31st and 32nd respectively.

Ollie C led the U15 boys home with a solid 14th place finish with Sam H just 10 seconds behind in 20th.  Will M in 21st and the ever-present Ollie A in 25th ensured the boys hold on to 2nd spot overall after the three races.

Not to be outdone by the clubs younger boys, the U17 men also dominated the opposition on the day to take over top spot from Cardiff after the first three fixtures. Alfie H is improving with every race and his superb 4th place takes him into the bronze medal position. Ollie L also ran impressively to finish 8th with Ben H (suffering a heavy cold) digging deep to secure 13th. Bottom age Will S also ran impressively to complete the team scores with all four finishing inside the top 16.

Despite missing the talented Sam G the U20 men ran superbly as a team to finish 2nd on the day behind Cardiff AC and move into 3rd place after the three fixtures. Matt H in his first race for the club this season ran impressively from the off. He went with the leading group and maintained his form throughout to record a fantastic 2nd place. Jack W, Will C and Alex C gave great support in finishing 10th, 12th and 18th respectively.

It was good to see Luke H running again and he was really pleased with the way thing went. ‘The ankle felt good and it was nice to get out there again after such a long lay off’ remarked Luke after the race. Joe G had a solid run wearing his Swansea University vest for a change and should be pleased with his 52nd place from a field of 458.
