North Somerset Athletic Club Head Coach Chris Millard returned to competition following a 2-year gap caused by injury, with a bang. Four races, four National titles and another National record later confirmed what a good decision it was to return, rather than the very real alternative of retirement after a 24-year career of high-level sprinting.
The first event took part at the amazing Cardiff Met Indoor facility. Running in the difficult outside lane, in the 200m Chris led from gun to tape, comfortably winning his 38th National Title. Number 39 came in the 60m. Chris’s time of 7.61 seconds was a National M50 record, and again the victory was never in doubt after a blistering start.
The wins earned Chris selection for Wales at the GB Inter-Area event at Lee Valley in North London. The lanes, results and performances almost identical to the earlier events in Cardiff a very pleasing return
“Its been a great start to the year. I was anticipating easing my way back in, but these results have catapulted me back into the spotlight. Its always great to pull the red vest of Wales on, I never tire of it, its an honour. As always, thank you to The Club at Cadbury House for their continued support”
As for Millard’s plans going forward in his 25th year of competition “Obviously I would love to get to 50 National Titles, I now believe that is doable, hopefully in the next couple of years (injuries permitting). I have three other goals, but for now I will keep those to myself, as these will take some seriously perfect training to become realistic!”
