English Cross-Country Champs @ Parliament Hill, London

40 NSAC athletes from under 13 to senior men travelled to Parliament Hill, London for the National Cross Cross Champs.

The course is undulating and conditions underfoot were challenging with mud covering most of the course. There were fields of over 400 runners in the junior events and 2000 plus in the senior events.

The highlight of the day came in the u13 boys where Joe F continued his high standards with an 8th place finish. He was backed up with outstanding runs by his team mates Leo D 54th, Felix A 66th, James B 67th. With 4 to score in the team this gave the quartet a 3rd place finish and a bronze medal. This is the first team medal NSAC has won at the national cross country. A wonderful achievement to sit alongside their team gold at the South West champs and bronze medals at both Midland and National road relays this season.

The U20 men faced 10k round the gruelling course, this played into the hands of Matt Howard who used his triathlon strength to move through the field and finish a superb 17th place, he was back up by last weeks Gwent League winner Sam Gentry in 37th place. The team were completed by Will Cheek and Ollie Lock for an excellent 8th place team finish.

The senior Men’s race had over 2000 finishers and Joe Gentry made his senior debut at the Nationals with an impressive 273rd place finish.

Alice B ran in the U20 women’s race, finishing 62nd which with a further two years in this age group even more improvements can be made.

Heidi M experienced her first national event as a first year in the two year U13 age group, she ran a great race for 87th place.

The NSAC U15 Boys had the largest contingent with a staggering 14 runners on the start line, the quartet of Reuben W, Herbie C, Seb L and Logan H closed the team inside the top 160.

All the athletes that represented the club gave their all in testing conditions, special mention to both Pippa H and Callum Day who both lost shoes during the race, Callum having to complete 9k with a show missing.
