Some of our junior endurance athletes have made an encouraging start to the summer season with some good times to boot. U15 Sam Gentry ran a superb 1500m in a time of 4.22.33 at the Millfield BMC meet on 3rd May. A time that currently ranks him 2nd in the SW and 9th in UK on Power of 10. Jack Wiltshire also ran very well with a time of 4.38.78 in the same race, as did bottom age athlete Ollie Lock with a huge PB of 4.50.75 when knocking 9 seconds off his 4.59.49 at Filton 2 weeks prior. Jack also recorded 2.17.77 in an 800m race at Filton on 19th April.
U17 Callum Smith has also hit the ground running with a 3000m time of 9.42.57 at the BMC meet, after recording a very good 2.10.63 800m at Filton 2 weeks earlier. Joe Gentry (U20) recorded 2.04.03 in an 800m at Exeter on 26th April, which followed a 4.18.96 1500m a week earlier at Filton. Mike Proffitt (also U20) finished just 1 second behind Joe in the same Filton race and then followed that superbly to go under 2 minutes for the first time in an 800m with 1.58.61 at the BMC meet on 3rd May.
Another of the clubs U20 athletes David Warnes ran 1500m in a time of 4.13.14 at Exeter on 26th April. He followed this with an impressive 3000m at the BMC meet on 3rd May in 9.06.21, a time that ranks him 3rd in the SW and 43rd in UK on Power of 10.
U20 Alys Withers had her first race of the season at the same BMC event and recorded a time of 2.36.22 in the 800m, whilst U15 Lucy Maine raced for the first time at Filton to finish in creditable 2.42.49 in her 800m race.
Mike’s 800m and David’s 3000m times at the BMC meet now rank as North Somerset AC club records.
