CLUB SHINES AT NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS

47 Youngsters from NSAC made the long trip to Leeds for the biggest club event of the winter season. With fields of up to 400 plus runners in the various age group races, our clubs athletes pitched themselves up against the nations best.

The highlight of the day came in the U17 boys race. The talented 13 strong squad attacked the race from the gun and were rewarded 6th team overall with the 4 scorers all finishing inside the top 100. Sam G 34th and Matt H 35th worked tirelessly together at the front of the field with lower age Alfie H 79th and Ben H in 99th supporting superbly. Jack W, Will C, Max D, Jamie C, Callum D, Jamie VdeV, Flynn P, Jamie P, and Louis C all competed well for the team in the 272 strong field.

The two female u17s, Vicky P and Ellie M also ran well using all their experience to negotiate the tough undulating 6k course.

From an individual point of view there were high hopes for the inform duo of Keira D and Millie R in the u13 girls race, and the girls did not disappoint with fine running for 46th and 93rd respectively in the largest field of the day – 418. They were backed up well by Blythe J, Olivia M, Harriet B, Lyla B, Hannah S and Emma O’C, all gaining valuable championship race experience in their first nationals.

In a fiercely fought U15 Boys race the team packed well and Will Sc first home in 164th, this despite losing a shoe in the early stages, so full credit to Will for his determination to finish. Will M proved the myth “an early night is a must to run well” is just that! with an outstanding return to form in 168th.The ever dependably Louie B followed closely in 187th and the scoring four was completed with a strong run by Ollie C in 214th. This team have strength in depth with excellent support from Oliver A, Stan H, Max B and Adam R. Ben M in his first season ran without fear and Will Sa showed guts and determination to complete the course despite suffering illness all week.

With leading U15 Alice B-M unavailable, Holly A grabbed the opportunity to be the first U15 girl home having a strong run in 253rd place after a closely fought battle with teammate Mary H 283rd. Connie R, Abigail T and Alysha F completed the team scores in the unseasonal balmy conditions of glorious Harewood House Estate.

Callum S and Joe G tackled the gruelling 9k U20 mens course with Callum as ever running strong to finish a fine 113th. Teammate Joe was suffering with illness and despite giving it his all had to pull up mid race.

The U13 boys race again had 400 plus finishers and the 3k course was run at a frantic pace from the off. Young Herbie C again showed his appetite for the big races leading the team home in 191st place. Sam H battled hard as always for the team in 229th, Elliot J showed good form for 297th and the 4th scoring spot went to Kyle B after a closely fought battle and sprint with Jacob F. Zeki H was next home, Joe S fought a stitch all race but was not going to let this stop him finishing for the team.

The event was superbly organised and everyone who ran represented the club with pride, enjoying the atmosphere and weekend trip away.

Athletes performing well at their chosen events, and then pitching in to score points in less familiar ones. Also, many athletes stepping up age groups just to ensure we have well balanced teams. We are looking forward to a strong Cross-Country showing in the winter, and then building on this year’s success”

As always, new members always welcome and we are ESPECIALLY keen to hear from anyone who would like to join our amazing team of volunteers (Coaching, Officiating, help of any sort!) www.nsac.org.uk
